Blackjack Firing Up The Casinos

Undoubtedly one of the most popular card games in the world of casino is blackjack. Among the reasons are due to the fact that the game is easy and fast. The faster you end it the more you make money or the other way around. Whichever the case may be, nothing can be further from the truth - blackjack is an easy game.

The game originated in France during the 1700 and was then called "vingt-et-un", which means twenty-one. Upon its introduction in the United States, it did not particularly incite much interest. Casinos tried to offer bonuses to various combinations, one of which is if the player's cards consist of an ace of spades and a black Jack which can either be clubs or spades. This particular hand was considered a "blackjack" and the name eventually stuck with the whole game itself.

The magic word is "twenty-one", which is basically the game's main objective. You need to have your total points as close as possible to 21 but not going over it otherwise you "bust", which means you lose. When none of the players' and the dealer's cards exceed 21, the player with the highest total number of points wins. In case of a tie, nobody wins or loses, which is called a "push". Cards numbered from 2 to 10 are worth exactly what their face value suggests. Therefore a 2 is equal to 2 points while a 10 is 10 points. Face cards which include the king, queen and jack are each worth 10 points. Lastly, an ace is worth either 1 or 11 points depending on which option gives you a better chance of winning.

It isn't called a blackjack for no reason at all. When is it a blackjack then? Simply, when the player gets "a natural", that is when the very first two cards dealt consist of an ace and any ten-point card. That extremely fortunate event makes the player an instant winner, if no one else, including the dealer, has the same combination.

The game commences when the players place their bets. The dealer then deals two cards to the players before taking one card for himself which are usually placed face-up. The dealer takes a second card face-down: the hole card. Each player needs to make a crucial decision either to "hit" which means to take another card, or to pass. If you decide to hit, you are given another card. If they don't bust, the players may keep on "hitting" until they decide to pass.
